Analyzing Country-Based TX Power Limits on MikroTik hAP ax³ (RouterOS 7.18)
The following table presents the maximum transmission power (TX power) values permitted on selected frequencies across different countries when using the MikroTik hAP ax³ wireless router. The evaluation was conducted with RouterOS version 7.18, including firmware of the same version, and focused specifically on the wifi-qcom wireless interface.
The primary objective of this research was to analyze how regulatory domains in various countries impact the allowable output power for wireless transmission. The analysis concentrates on the frequencies 2412 MHz (2.4 GHz band), 5200 MHz (5 GHz band, UNII-1), 5600 MHz (5 GHz band, UNII-2/DFS), and 5805 MHz (part of the new 6 GHz Wi-Fi 6E allocation).
By comparing the listed values, it becomes evident which countries enforce stricter limitations and which allow for higher TX power levels. This information is particularly relevant for network engineers and system administrators deploying MikroTik devices globally, where legal and technical constraints can significantly influence wireless performance and coverage.
Technical Note: Determining TX power on 5600 MHz is challenging due to DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) requirements. In most countries, radar detection is mandatory in this band, and the scanning period can last up to 10 minutes before the interface is allowed to transmit. As a result, measurements for 5600 MHz are only available for a limited set of countries (marked N/A).
Similarly, 5805 MHz falls within the Wi-Fi 6E / 6 GHz band, which is not yet supported or licensed in many regions. In addition, some countries — including Qatar, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Vietnam — also require DFS checks on this frequency, which may prevent immediate transmission and affect TX power availability.
The MikroTik hAP ax³ (C53UiG+5HPaxD2HPaxD) uses the Qualcomm QCN-5022 chipset. In Superchannel mode, it is capable of delivering up to 29 dBm at MCS0 (6 Mbit/s) on 2412 MHz. On the tested frequencies 5200 MHz, 5600 MHz, and 5805 MHz, the maximum TX power observed was 28 dBm.
All values refer to a channel width of 20 MHz. When using wider channels, the transmission power may vary - either increase or decrease - depending on hardware and regulatory constraints.
